[CBSE PMT 1996]
Options:
A) Ectoderm and endoderm
B) Mesoderm and ectoderm
C) Ectoderm on both sides
D) Mesoderm on both sides
Show Answer
Answer:
Correct Answer: D
Solution:
The space between body wall and alimentary canal lined by mesoderm is called as coelom. True coelom is lined with mesoderm on both the sides.
It arises by formation of mesodermally lined pouches or by splitting in mesoderm.
If the body cavity is not lined with mesoderm; it is not a true coelom, and is called pseudocoelom as in case of animals belonging to Aschelminthes.
When the animal does not possess body cavity it is called acoelomate condition as in case of animals belonging to Platyhelminthes. Thus, the correct answer is option (D).
