Biological Classification And System Of Classification Question 65

Question: Which of the following is a Prokaryote

[MP PMT 2002]

Options:

A) Chlorella

B) Chlamydomonas

C) Protomyces

D) Oscillatoria

Show Answer

Answer:

Correct Answer: D

Solution:

A prokaryote is a unicellular organism which lacks a membrane-bound nucleus, mitochondria, or any other membrane-bound organelle.

Oscillatoria is a genus of filamentous cyanobacteria.

It reproduces by fragmentation. It forms long filaments of cells which can break into fragments called hormogonia.

The hormogonia can grow into a new, longer filament. Chlorella and Chlamydomonas are genera of single-celled algae and they are eukaryotic.

Chlorella is without flagella and Chlamydomonas is flagellated. Protomyces is an ascomycete fungus and is eukaryotic.
