Question: In chloroplasts, chlorophyll is present in the [CBSE PMT 2004, 05]

Options:

A) Thylakoids

B) Stroma

C) Outer membrane

D) Inner membrane

Show Answer

Answer:

Correct Answer: A

Solution:

In chloroplasts, chlorophyll molecules are embedded in the thylakoid membranes. Thylakoids are flattened, membrane-bound sacs where the light-dependent reactions of photosynthesis take place. Stacked thylakoids form grana, and it is in these thylakoid membranes that the photosynthetic pigments (chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b, and carotenoids) are organised into photosystems. The stroma, outer membrane, and inner membrane do not contain chlorophyll.
