Options:

A) Large amount of $ CO_2 $ , no water and no energy

B) 132 gms of $ CO_2 $ , 54 gms of water and 337 kcals of energy

C) 264 gms of $ CO_2 $ , 108 gms of water and 674 kcals of energy

D) 528 gms of $ CO_2 $ , 216 gms of water and 1348 kcals of energy

Answer:

Correct Answer: C

Solution:

Reaction of respiration is $ C _ 6H _ {12}O _ 6 {} ~ +6O _2 {} ~ 6CO _2 {} + 6H _ 2O+674 \ kcal $ In this reaction considering molecular weight of each element, we get $ C _6H _{12}O _6 {} ~ = 6 \times 12+12 \times 1+6 \times 16=180gm $ $ O _2 {} ~ =6\times 32 = 192gm $ Now we consider products of this reaction i.e.

$ 6CO _2 $ and $ 6H _2O $ $ 6CO _2 {} ~ = 6( 12+32 ) = 264 gm $ $ 6H _2O = 6( 2+16 )=108gm $
