Analytical Chemistry Question 101

Question: If 20 ml of 0.25 N strong acid and 30 ml of 0.2 N of strong base are mixed, then the resulting solution is

[KCET 2002]

Options:

A) 0.25 N basic

B) 0.2 N acidic

C) 0.25 N acidic

D) 0.2 N basic

Show Answer

Answer:

Correct Answer: D

Solution:

$ V_1=20ml,N_1=0.25N,V_2=30ml $

$ N_2=0.2N $
$ \therefore N=\frac{N_1V_1+N_2V_2}{V_1+V_2}=\frac{20(0.25)+30(0.2)}{20+30} $

$ =\frac{5+6}{50}=\frac{11}{50}=0.2N $ basic
