Solutions Question 143

Question: Two solutions of a substance (non-electrolyte) are mixed in the following manner. 480 mL of 1.5 M first solution +520 mL of 1.2 M second solution. What is the molarity of the final mixture-

Options:

A) 2.70 M

B) 1.344 M

C) 1.50 M

D) 1.20 M

Show Answer

Answer:

Correct Answer: B

Solution:

From the molarity equation. $ M_1V_1+M_2V_2=MV $

$ M=\frac{M_1V_1+M_2V_2}{V} $ where $ V=V_1+V_2 $

$ M=\frac{480\times 1.5+520\times 1.2}{480+520}=1.344M $
