Conic Sections Question 62

Question: The equation of the tangent to the parabola $ y^{2}=4x+5 $ parallel to the line $ y=2x+7 $ is

[MNR 1979]

Options:

A) $ 2x-y-3=0 $

B) $ 2x-y+3=0 $

C) $ 2x+y+3=0 $

D) None of these

Show Answer

Answer:

Correct Answer: B

Solution:

Equation of parabola is $ Y^{2}=4X $ , where $ X=x+\frac{5}{4} $

Tangent parallel to $ Y=2X+7 $ is $ Y=2X+\frac{a}{m} $

therefore $ y=2( x+\frac{5}{4} )+\frac{1}{2} $

therefore $ y=2x+3 $ i.e., $ 2x-y+3=0 $ .
