Coordinate Geometry Question 31

Question: The ratio in which x-axis divides the join of the points (2, -3) and (5, 6) is

Options:

A) 2 : 1

B) 1: 2

C) 2 : -1

D) None of these

Show Answer

Answer:

Correct Answer: B

Solution:

Let ratio be k : 1 and coordinates of x-axis are $ (a,0). $ Therefore $ 0=\frac{k\times 6+1\times (-3)}{k+1}\Rightarrow k=\frac{1}{2} $

Hence the ratio is 1 : 2. Aliter: Apply the formula given in the theory part, the required ratio is $ -( \frac{-3}{6} ) $ or 1 : 2.
