Differential Equations Question 115

Question: The order and degree of the differential equation $ \frac{d^{2}y}{dx^{2}}+{{( \frac{dy}{dx} )}^{\frac{1}{3}}}+{x^{\frac{1}{4}}}=0 $ are respectively

[MP PET 1998]

Options:

A) 2, 3

B) 3, 3

C) 2, 6

D) 2, 4

Show Answer

Answer:

Correct Answer: A

Solution:

Given $ \frac{d^{2}y}{dx^{2}}+{{( \frac{dy}{dx} )}^{1/3}}+{x^{1/4}}=0 $

Taking cube, $ {{[ ( \frac{d^{2}y}{dx^{2}} )+{{( \frac{dy}{dx} )}^{1/3}}+{x^{1/4}} ]}^{3}}=0 $

Order of highest derivative $ =2 $

Degree of highest derivative $ =3 $ .
