Differential Equations Question 68

Question: Solution of differential equation $ xdy-ydx=0 $ represents

[MP PET 1996]

Options:

A) Rectangular hyperbola

B) Straight line passing through origin

C) Parabola whose vertex is at origin

D) Circle whose centre is at origin

Show Answer

Answer:

Correct Answer: B

Solution:

$ ydx-xdy=0 $

Therefore $ \frac{1}{x}dx=\frac{1}{y}dy $

On integrating, $ \log x=\log y+\log c $

Therefore $ \log \frac{x}{y}=\log c $

Therefore $ x=cy $

It is a straight line passing through origin.
