Pair Of Straight Lines Question 51

Question: Separate equations of lines, for a pair of lines, whose equation is $ x^{2}+xy-12y^{2}=0 $ , are

[Karnataka CET 2001; Pb. CET 2000]

Options:

A) $ x+4y=0 $ and $ x+3y=0 $

B) $ 2x-3y=0 $ and $ x-4y=0 $

C) $ x-6y=0 $ and $ x-3y=0 $

D) $ x+4y=0 $ and $ x-3y=0 $

Show Answer

Answer:

Correct Answer: D

Solution:

$ x^{2}+xy-12y^{2}=0 $

Therefore $ x^{2}+4xy-3xy-12y^{2}=0 $

Therefore $ (x+4y)(x-3y)=0 $

Therefore separate equations for the lines are $ x+4y=0 $ and $ x-3y=0 $ .
