Current Electricity Charging Discharging Of Capacitors Question 176

Question: In the circuit shown in figure reading of voltmeter is V1 when only S1 is closed, reading of voltmeter is V2 when only S2 is closed and reading of voltmeter is V3 when both S1 and S2 are closed. Then

Options:

A) V3 > V2 > V1

B) V2 > V1 > V3

C) V3 > V1 > V2

D) V1 > V2 > V3

Show Answer

Answer:

Correct Answer: B

Solution:

In series : Potential difference µ R When only S1 is closed $ V _{1}=\frac{1}{4}E=0.25E $ When only S2 is closed $ V _{2}=\frac{1}{7}E=0.14E $ and when both S1 and S2 are closed combined resistance of 6R and 3R is 2R \ $ V _{3}=( \frac{2}{3} )E=0.67E $

Therefore $ V _{2}>V _{1}>V _{3} $
