Electrostatics Question 394

Question: If a charged spherical conductor of radius $ 10cm $ has potential $ V $ at a point distant $ 5cm $ from its centre, then the potential at a point distant $ 15cm $ from the centre will be [SCRA 1998; JIPMER 2001, 02]

Options:

A) $ \frac{1}{3}V $

B) $ \frac{2}{3}V $

C) $ \frac{3}{2}V $

D) $ 3V $

Show Answer

Answer:

Correct Answer: B

Solution:

Potential inside the sphere will be same as that on its surface i.e.

$ V=V _{surface}=\frac{q}{10}statvolt $ ,

$ V _{out}=\frac{q}{15}statvolt $

$ \frac{V _{out}}{V}=\frac{2}{3} $

therefore $ V _{out}=\frac{2}{3}V $
