Gravitation Question 77

Question: Assertion: The value of acceleration due to gravity does not depend upon mass of the body on which force is applied. Reason: Acceleration due to gravity is a constant quantity.

Options:

A) If both assertion and reason are true and the reason is the correct explanation of the assertion.

B) If both assertion and reason are true but reason is not the correct explanation of the assertion.

C) If assertion is true but reason is false.

D) If the assertion and reason both are false.

E) If assertion is false but reason is true.

Show Answer

Answer:

Correct Answer: C

Solution:

Acceleration due to gravity is given by $ [g=\frac{GM}{R^{2}}] $ . Thus it does not depend on mass of body on which it is acting. Also it is not a constant quantity it changes with change in value of both M and R (distance between two bodies).
