Laws Of Motion Question 10
Assertion: Force is required to move a body uniformly along a circle. Reason: When the motion is uniform, acceleration is not zero.
Options:
A) If both assertion and reason are true and the reason is the correct explanation of the assertion.
B) If both assertion and reason are true but reason is not the correct explanation of the assertion.
C) If assertion is true but reason is false.
D) If the assertion and reason are both false.
Show Answer
Answer:
Correct Answer: B
Solution:
When a body is moving in a circle, its speed remains same but velocity changes due to change in the direction of motion of body. According to first law of motion, force is required to change the state of a body. As in circular motion the direction of velocity of body is changing so the acceleration cannot be zero. However, for uniform circular motion, acceleration is not zero but directed towards the center (centripetal acceleration).
