Rotational Motion Question 153

Question: A system consists of three particles, each of mass m and located at (l, 1), (2, 2) and (3, 3). The co- ordinates of the centre of mass are

Options:

A) (1, 1)

B) (2, 2)

C) (3, 3)

D) (6, 6)

Show Answer

Answer:

Correct Answer: B

Solution:

[b] The coordinates of C.M of three particle are

$x=\frac{m _{1}x _{1}+m _{2}x _{2}+m _{3}x _{3}}{m _{1}+m _{2}+m _{3}} $ and

$y=\frac{m _{1}y _{1}+m _{2}y _{2}+m _{3}y _{3}}{m _{1}+m _{2}+m _{3}}$

here

$m _{1}=m _{2}=m _{3}=m$

so

$x=\frac{(x _{1}+x _{2}+x _{3})m}{m+m+m}=2$

$y=\frac{(y _{1}+y _{2}+y _{3})}{m+m+m}=2$

So coordinates of C.M.of three particle are (2,2)
