Transmission Of Heat Question 173

Question: Liquid is filled in a vessel which is kept in a room with temperature $ 20^{o}C $ . When the temperature of the liquid is $ 80^{o}C $ , then it loses heat at the rate of $ 60\ cal/\sec $ . What will be the rate of loss of heat when the temperature of the liquid is $ 40^{o}C $

[MP PMT 1994]

Options:

A) $ 180\ cal/\sec $

B) $ 40\ cal/\sec $

C) $ 30\ cal/\sec $

D) $ 20\ cal/\sec $

Show Answer

Answer:

Correct Answer: D

Solution:

Rate of loss of heat $ ( \frac{\Delta Q}{t} )\propto , $ temperature difference Dq

$ \frac{{( \frac{\Delta Q}{t} )_1}}{{( \frac{\Delta Q}{t} )_2}}=\frac{\Delta {\theta _{2}}}{\Delta {\theta _{1}}} $

Therefore $ \frac{60}{{{( \frac{\Delta Q}{t} )} _{2}}}=\frac{80-60}{40-20} $

Therefore $ {{( \frac{\Delta Q}{t} )} _{2}}=\frac{20,cal}{sec} $
