SATHEE: Complete JEE 2026 Analysis & Guide

Official Preparation, Ecosystem & Analytical Guide | Ministry of Education & IIT Kanpur

Welcome, future engineers! Preparing for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) does not have to mean paying exorbitant fees for private coaching. The SATHEE (Self Assessment Test and Help for Entrance Exams) platform brings you high-quality preparation resources created directly by IIT professors and top rankers, absolutely free of cost.

Below is the complete, detailed analytical guide for JEE 2026, provided in both English and Hindi.

PART 1: Decoding the JEE Ecosystem

What is JEE and Why Take This Test?

The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is India’s most prestigious and highly competitive engineering entrance assessment. Taking this test is the primary gateway to the country’s premier technical institutes, including the National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), and the apex Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).

Why take it? Graduating from these Tier-1 institutes guarantees world-class pedagogy, cutting-edge research opportunities, immense global alumni networking, and the highest placement packages in the country. It is a transformative career launchpad.

Why Advanced if Mains Already Exists?

The answer lies in the testing philosophy of the two exams:

  • JEE Main (The Qualifier): Managed by the NTA, this exam tests your speed, accuracy, and breadth of knowledge. It sticks strictly to the NCERT curriculum. It serves as the final admission test for NITs/IIITs, and filters out the top 2.5 lakh students.
  • JEE Advanced (The Ultimate Test): Managed by the IITs, this exam tests conceptual depth, analytical reasoning, and multi-concept application. You might encounter questions combining Thermodynamics, Electrostatics, and Calculus in one problem. It finds students who can innovate and solve complex, novel scenarios.
Understanding Percentile vs. Raw Marks

What is a Percentile? A percentile is NOT your percentage. It is a relative score that indicates how many candidates in your specific examination shift scored equal to or less than you.

The Formula: Percentile = (Number of candidates in your shift with raw score ≤ your score / Total candidates in your shift) × 100

Why use Percentiles? JEE Main is conducted across multiple shifts. Some shifts might get a difficult paper, while others get an easy one. Normalizing scores into Percentiles ensures absolute fairness across all sessions.

PART 2: JEE Main 2026 Blueprint

JEE Main is your first hurdle. It is a Computer-Based Test (CBT) that serves as the mandatory qualifying test for JEE Advanced.

Important Dates (2026 Schedule)
Examination Event Session 1 (January) Session 2 (April)
Online Application Nov – Dec 2025 Feb – March 2026
Exam Dates Late Jan 2026 (Completed) Early April 2026 (Upcoming)
Final Results Mid-February 2026 Late April 2026

** Crucial 2026 Update!** The exam pattern has been updated. The optional questions in Section B (Numerical Value Questions) have been removed. You must now attempt all 5 questions in Section B for each subject.

Eligibility & 75% Rule
  • Qualification: Passed Class 12 in 2024, 2025, or appearing in 2026.
  • The 75% Rule: Minimum 75% aggregate in Class 12 (65% for SC/ST), OR rank within the top 20 percentile of respective boards.
Exam Pattern & Marking
  • Total Questions: 75 questions in total.
  • Sections: 20 MCQs and 5 Numerical Value Questions per subject.
  • Marking Scheme: +4 for correct; -1 for incorrect (Negative marking applies to BOTH sections).

PART 3: JEE Advanced 2026 Blueprint

JEE Advanced is the ultimate test for admission into the 23 prestigious IITs. It is known for its unpredictable patterns and deep application-based questions.

Dates & Application
  • Registration: Late April to early May 2026 via jeeadv.ac.in.
  • Exam Date: Last Sunday of May 2026.
  • Application Fees: ₹1600 (Female/SC/ST/PwD) | ₹3200 (All Other Candidates).
Strict Eligibility
  • Qualification: Top 2,50,000 successful candidates in JEE Main Paper 1. Maximum two attempts in two consecutive years.
  • Tie-Breaking Rules: In case of an aggregate score tie, the candidate with higher marks in Mathematics is preferred, followed by Physics.
Master JEE Advanced with SATHEE

Standard coaching modules often fail due to the changing exam pattern. Use SATHEE’s AI-driven mock tests, designed by IIT Kanpur, to practice unpredictable patterns (Matrix Match, Multi-Correct, Integer type). Always practice the official mock tests released on the JEE Advanced website to familiarize yourself with the unique CBT interface.

PART 4: Trend Analysis & Cutoffs (2026)

Based on the completed Session 1 (January 2026) shift data, here is the detailed conversion matrix. Note: Tougher shifts require fewer marks for higher percentiles.

Raw Score (Out of 300) Expected Percentile (2026) Expected AIR
270 - 300 99.99+ Top 1 - 1,000
210 - 250 99.50 - 99.90 1,000 - 5,000
185 - 209 99.00 - 99.49 5,000 - 15,000
150 - 184 97.00 - 98.99 15,000 - 45,000

The “Qualifying Cutoff” is the minimum percentile required to be eligible to write JEE Advanced. Over the last 5 years, the cutoff for the General category has steadily climbed.

Category 2023 2024 2025 2026 (Expected)
General (UR) 90.77 93.23 93.10 93.30 - 94.50
OBC-NCL 73.61 79.67 79.43 80.50 - 81.50
EWS 75.62 81.32 80.38 81.00 - 82.50
SC 51.97 60.09 61.15 61.50 - 63.00
