Plant-Physiologyphotosynthesis-1

The site of photosynthesis in plants is chloroplast. Four basic pigments Chlorophyll a, Chlorophyll b, Xanthophylls and carotenoids are present in the chloroplast. Chlorophyll a is the major pigment, whereas chlorophyll b, Xanthophylls and carotenoids are the accessory pigments. Photosynthesis occurs in two phases: light reaction and dark reaction. Light reactions take place in Grana of chloroplast where dark reactions take place in the stroma. Chlorophyll is a tetrapyrolle with magnesium ion present in the centre.
