What is sewage? In which way can sewage be harmful to us?

Answer:

  • Sewage is wastewater that contains a mixture of domestic, industrial, and commercial wastes, including human excreta, detergents, chemicals, and debris. Sewage can be harmful to us in the following ways:
    • It can contain pathogenic microorganisms that cause waterborne diseases.
    • Sewage can lead to water pollution, making water sources unsafe for drinking and recreation.
    • The organic matter in sewage consumes oxygen when discharged into water bodies, leading to oxygen depletion and harming aquatic life.
    • It can result in foul odors and unsanitary conditions if not treated properly.
