Describe the main functions of the anterior pituitary gland.

Answer:

The anterior pituitary gland, located at the base of the brain beneath the hypothalamus, is responsible for producing and secreting a variety of hormones in response to signals from the hypothalamus. These hormones include growth hormone (GH), which stimulates growth and cell regeneration; thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), which regulates the thyroid gland; and adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), which influences the adrenal glands. The anterior pituitary plays a crucial role in regulating several key physiological processes, including growth, metabolism, and stress response.
