Describe the structure of a seminiferous tubule.

Answer:

Seminiferous tubules are tightly coiled structures within the testes where sperm production takes place. They are lined with a stratified epithelium, containing two main types of cells: Sertoli cells and spermatogenic cells. Sertoli cells support and nourish the developing sperm cells, while spermatogenic cells undergo several stages of development to eventually become mature sperm. The tubules are surrounded by a basement membrane and are interspersed with Leydig cells, which produce testosterone.
