Exemplar Problems

Question:

Write two major functions each of the testis and ovary

Answer:

Testis:

  1. Sperm Production: The primary function of the testes is to produce sperm (spermatogenesis), which are male gametes essential for reproduction.
  2. Hormone Production: The testes also produce and secrete male sex hormones, primarily testosterone, which is crucial for the development of male secondary sexual characteristics and the regulation of libido and fertility.

Ovary:

  1. Egg Production: Ovaries are responsible for producing eggs (oogenesis), the female gametes necessary for reproduction.
  2. Hormone Production: They also secrete female sex hormones, such as estrogen and progesterone, which regulate the menstrual cycle, reproductive system development, and maintenance of pregnancy.
