Exemplar Problems

Question:

What is the menstrual cycle? Which hormones regulate the menstrual cycle?

Answer:

The menstrual cycle is a monthly series of changes a woman’s body goes through in preparation for the possibility of pregnancy. It involves the thickening of the endometrium (uterine lining) and the release of an egg from one of the ovaries. The cycle is regulated by hormones like estrogen and progesterone (produced by the ovaries), as well as Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH) and Luteinizing Hormone (LH) (produced by the pituitary gland).
