Problem 25: Describe the formation of a coordinate covalent bond in a complex ion, such as the formation of the hexacyanoferrate(II) ion ([Fe(CN)₆]⁴⁻) in coordination compounds.
Solution :

Coordinate covalent bonds form when one atom or ion donates a lone pair of electrons to another. In CN⁻, the lone pair of electrons on nitrogen is donated to carbon, creating a coordinate covalent bond.
