Problem 28 : Discuss the concept of molecular polarity and how it relates to the overall geometry of a molecule. Determine the polarity of carbon tetrachloride (CCl₄) and ammonia (NH₃).
Solution :
Molecular polarity depends on geometry and polar bonds. CCl₄ is nonpolar due to its symmetric tetrahedral shape, while NH₃ is polar because of its trigonal pyramidal shape and polar N-H bonds.
