Vodafone Idea (Vi) Announces Price Hike for Prepaid and Postpaid Plans Starting July 4 Following Airtel and Jio

Vodafone Idea (Vi) announced on Friday that it will be increasing the prices of its mobile plans in India. This move comes after its competitors, Reliance Jio and Airtel, also raised their prices for both prepaid and postpaid plans on Thursday and Friday, respectively. All three telecom companies are aiming to boost their average revenue per user (ARPU) and recover the costs spent on 5G network infrastructure over the past few years.

Vi Prepaid Plan Price Increase

Similar to Airtel and Reliance Jio, Vi customers will soon have to pay more for their prepaid recharge plans to get the same data and calling benefits. It’s important to note that Vi’s most expensive annual plan offers less daily data compared to Airtel and Jio but is Rs. 100 cheaper.

Most of Vi’s plans that offer daily data (except the Rs. 299 plan) include unlimited data usage between 12am and 6am, as well as weekend data rollover.

To stay competitive, Vi has aligned its prices with the updated tariffs of its main rivals. Airtel recently announced that it needs its ARPU to exceed Rs. 300 to cover the costs of 5G networks and ensure profitability.

Here are the new prices for Vi’s prepaid plans:

Vi Postpaid Plan Price Increase

Postpaid customers will also see a price hike in their monthly bills. The Rs. 401 plan with 50GB of data will now cost Rs. 451, and the Rs. 501 plan with 90GB of data will be priced at Rs. 551. Both plans offer unlimited data usage at night and access to some over-the-top (OTT) services.

Family plans are also getting more expensive. The plan with two lines (70GB for the first number and 40GB for the second) will now cost Rs. 701, up from Rs. 601. The four-line plan (140GB for the primary number and 40GB for each secondary number) will increase from Rs. 1,001 to Rs. 1,201.

Effective Date and Additional Information

The new prices will be effective from July 4. Vi has not yet updated its website with these new prices, similar to Airtel and Jio. Prepaid customers will see the new prices when they recharge after July 4, while postpaid customers will see the changes in their next monthly bill.
