Chemical Kinetics - Result Question 59

59. For the given reaction, $A+B \longrightarrow$ Products

Following data are given

Initial conc.
$(\mathbf{m} / \mathbf{L})$
Initial conc.
$(\mathbf{m} / \mathbf{L})$
Initial rate
$\left[\mathbf{m L}^{-\mathbf{1}} \mathbf{s}^{-\mathbf{1}}\right]$
$[A] _0$ $[B] _0$
0.1 0.1 0.05
0.2 0.1 0.1
0.1 0.2 0.05

(a) Write the rate equation.

(b) Calculate the rate constant.

(2004, 2M)

Show Answer

Solution:

  1. $\dfrac{(\text { Rate }) _1}{(\text { Rate }) _2}=\dfrac{0.05}{0.10}=\dfrac{1}{2}=\left(\dfrac{1}{2}\right)^{a} \Rightarrow a=1$; order w.r.t $A$.

Order w.r.t $B=0$

(a) Rate $=k[A]$

(b) $k=\dfrac{\text { Rate }}{[A]}=\dfrac{0.05}{0.10}=0.5$ $ s^{-1}$
