Magnetics Ques 122

  1. A superconductor has $T _C(0)=100$ $K$. When a magnetic field of $7.5$ $T$ is applied, its $T _C$ decreases to $75$ $K$. For this material one can definitely say that when

(Note $T=$ Tesla)

(a) $B=5 T, T _C(B)=80 K$

(b) $B=5 T, 75 K<T _C(B)<100 K$

(c) $B=10 T, 75 K<T _C(B)<100 K$

(d) $B=10 T, T _C(B)=70 K$

Show Answer

Solution:

  1. With increase in temperature, $T _C$ is decreasing.

$ \begin{aligned} T _C(0) & =100 K \\ T _C & =75 K \text { at } B=7.5 T \end{aligned} $

Hence, at $B=5 T, T _C$ should lie between $75 K$ and $100 K$. Hence, the correct option should be (b).
