Chemical Bonding And Molecular Structure Question 2

Question 2 - 2024 (01 Feb Shift 1)

Arrange the bonds in order of increasing ionic character in the molecules. $LiF, K _2 O, N _2, SO _2$ and $CIF _3$.

(1) $CIF _3<N _2<SO _2<K _2 O<LiF$

(2) $LiF<K _2 O<CIF _3<SO _2<N _2$

(3) $N _2<SO _2<CIF _3<K _2 O<LiF$

(4) $N _2<CIF _3<SO _2<K _2 O<LiF$

Show Answer

Answer (3)

Solution

Increasing order of ionic character $N _2<SO _2<ClF _3<K _2 O<LiF$

Ionic character depends upon difference of electronegativity (bond polarity).
