JEE PYQ: Chemical Equilibrium Question 30
Question 30 - 2019 (12 Jan Shift 2)
Two solids dissociate as follows:
$\text{A}(s) \rightarrow \text{B}(g) + \text{C}(g)$; $K_{P_1} = x$ atm$^2$
$\text{D}(s) \rightarrow \text{C}(g) + \text{E}(g)$; $K_{P_2} = y$ atm$^2$
The total pressure when both solids dissociate simultaneously is:
(1) $\sqrt{x+y}$ atm (2) $2\sqrt{x+y}$ atm (3) $(x+y)$ atm (4) $x^2 + y^2$ atm
Show Answer
Answer: (2) $2\sqrt{x+y}$ atm
Solution
$(P_1 + P_2)^2 = x + y$. Total pressure $= 2(P_1 + P_2) = 2\sqrt{x+y}$.
