JEE PYQ: Chemical Equilibrium Question 7

Question 7 - 2021 (24 Feb Shift 1)

At 1990 K and 1 atm pressure, there are equal number of $\text{Cl}2$ molecules and Cl atoms in the reaction mixture. The value of $K_p$ for the reaction $\text{Cl}{2(g)} \rightleftharpoons 2\text{Cl}_{(g)}$ under the above conditions is $x \times 10^{-1}$. The value of $x$ is ____. (Rounded off to the nearest integer)

Show Answer

Answer: 5

Solution

Equal moles: $P_{\text{Cl}2} = P{\text{Cl}} = 1/2$. $K_p = \frac{(1/2)^2}{1/2} = 0.5 = 5 \times 10^{-1}$.
