JEE PYQ: Electrochemistry Question 14
Question 14 - 2020 (03 Sep Shift 2)
An acidic solution of dichromate is electrolyzed for 8 minutes using 2A current. As per the following equation $\text{Cr}_2\text{O}_7^{2-} + 14\text{H}^+ + 6e^- \rightarrow 2\text{Cr}^{3+} + 7\text{H}_2\text{O}$ The amount of Cr$^{3+}$ obtained was 0.104 g. The efficiency of the process (in %) is (Take: F = 96000 C, At. mass of chromium = 52) ____.
Show Answer
Answer: 60
Solution
Charge = 960 C. Theoretical mass of Cr$^{3+}$ = 0.173 g. Efficiency = $\frac{0.104}{0.173} \times 100 = 60%$.
