JEE PYQ: Electrochemistry Question 28
Question 28 - 2019 (08 Apr Shift 2)
Calculate the standard cell potential (in V) of the cell in which following reaction takes place: $\text{Fe}^{2+}(aq) + \text{Ag}^+(aq) \rightarrow \text{Fe}^{3+}(aq) + \text{Ag}(s)$ Given: $E^0_{\text{Ag}^+/\text{Ag}} = x$ V, $E^0_{\text{Fe}^{2+}/\text{Fe}} = y$ V, $E^0_{\text{Fe}^{3+}/\text{Fe}} = z$ V
(1) $x - z$
(2) $x - y$
(3) $x + 2y - 3z$
(4) $x + y - z$
Show Answer
Answer: (3) $x + 2y - 3z$
Solution
$E^0_{\text{Fe}^{3+}/\text{Fe}^{2+}} = 3z - 2y$. $E^0_{\text{cell}} = x - (3z - 2y) = x + 2y - 3z$.
