JEE PYQ: General Organic Chemistry Question 32
Question 32 - 2020 (09 Jan Shift 2)
Which of the following has the shortest C–Cl bond?
(1) $\text{Cl}-\text{CH}=\text{CH}_2$
(2) $\text{Cl}-\text{CH}=\text{CH}-\text{NO}_2$
(3) $\text{Cl}-\text{CH}=\text{CH}-\text{CH}_3$
(4) $\text{Cl}-\text{CH}=\text{CH}-\text{OCH}_3$
Show Answer
Answer: (2)
Solution
In $\text{Cl}-\text{CH}=\text{CH}-\text{NO}_2$ double bond character in carbon-chlorine bond is maximum due to resonance and so the bond length is shortest.
