Solution
Mesityl oxide: $\text{H}_3\text{C}-\overset{\sigma}{\text{C}}=\overset{\sigma}{\text{CH}}-\overset{\sigma}{\text{C}}(-\overset{\sigma}{\text{CH}_3})(-\text{CH}_3)=\text{O}$. $\therefore$ C-C $\sigma$ bonds = 5.
