Aqua regia is used for dissolving noble metals (Au, Pt, etc.). The gas evolved in this process is:
(1) NO
(2) $\text{N}_2\text{O}_5$
(3) $\text{N}_2$
(4) $\text{N}_2\text{O}_3$
Aqua regia is $\text{HNO}_3$ : HCl (1 : 3). $\text{Au} + 4\text{H}^+ + \text{NO}_3^- + 4\text{Cl}^- \to \text{AuCl}_4^- + \text{NO} + 2\text{H}_2\text{O}$.
