JEE PYQ: Qualitative Analysis Question 8

Question 8 - 2019 (11 Jan Shift 1)

An organic compound is estimated through Dumas method and was found to evolve 6 moles of CO₂, 4 moles of H₂O and 1 mole of nitrogen gas. The formula of the compound is:

(1). (C₁₂H₈N)

(2). (C₁₂H₈N₂)

(3). (C₆H₈N₂)

(4). (C₆H₈N)

Show Answer

Answer: (3)

Solution

[CₓHᵧNᵤ] →(Dumas)→ 6CO₂ + 4H₂O + N₂. Mol C = 6, Mol H = 8, Mol N = 2. Formula = C₆H₈N₂.
