JEE PYQ: Solutions And Colligative Properties Question 10

Question 10 - 2021 (25 Feb Shift 2)

If a compound AB dissociates to the extent of 75% in an aqueous solution, the molality of the solution which shows a 2.5 K rise in the boiling point of the solution is ____ molal.

[$K_b = 0.52$ K kg mol$^{-1}$]

Show Answer

Answer: 3

Solution

$i = 1 + (2-1)(3/4) = 7/4$. $m = 2.5/(0.52 \times 7/4) = 2.747 \simeq 3$ mol/kg.
