JEE PYQ: Solutions And Colligative Properties Question 20

Question 20 - 2020 (06 Sep Shift 2)

A set of solutions is prepared using 180 g of water as a solvent and 10 g of different non-volatile solutes A, B and C. The relative lowering of vapour pressure in the presence of these solutes are in the order [Given, A = 100 g/mol; B = 200 g/mol; C = 10,000 g/mol]

(1). (B > C > A)

(2). (C > B > A)

(3). (A > B > C)

(4). (A > C > B)

Show Answer

Answer: (3)

Solution

RLVP $\propto$ moles of solute. $n_A = 0.1 > n_B = 0.05 > n_C = 10^{-3}$. So RLVP(A) > RLVP(B) > RLVP(C).
