JEE PYQ: Solutions And Colligative Properties Question 32

Question 32 - 2019 (10 Apr Shift 1)

At room temperature, a dilute solution of urea is prepared by dissolving 0.60 g of urea in 360 g of water. If the vapour pressure of pure water is 35 mmHg, lowering of vapour pressure will be:

(1). (0.027 mmHg)

(2). (0.028 mmHg)

(3). (0.017 mmHg)

(4). (0.031 mmHg)

Show Answer

Answer: (3)

Solution

$\Delta p = p^0 \times \frac{n_{\text{urea}}}{n_{\text{urea}} + n_{\text{water}}} = 35 \times \frac{0.01}{20.01} \approx 0.017$ mmHg.
