JEE PYQ: Solutions And Colligative Properties Question 39

Question 39 - 2019 (09 Jan Shift 2)

A solution containing 62 g ethylene glycol in 250 g water is cooled to $-10°C$. If $K_f$ for water is 1.86 K kg mol$^{-1}$, the amount of water (in g) separated as ice is:

(1). (48)

(2). (32)

(3). (64)

(4). (16)

Show Answer

Answer: (3)

Solution

$10 = 1.86 \times \frac{1}{w/1000}$. $w = 186$ g (liquid water). Ice $= 250 - 186 = 64$ g.
