JEE PYQ: Solutions And Colligative Properties Question 46

Question 46 - 2019 (12 Jan Shift 2)

Freezing point of a 4% aqueous solution of X is equal to freezing point of 12% aqueous solution of Y. If molecular weight of X is A, then molecular weight of Y is:

(1). (3A)

(2). (2A)

(3). (A)

(4). (4A)

Show Answer

Answer: (1)

Solution

$(\Delta T_f)_X = (\Delta T_f)_Y$. $\frac{4}{A \times 96} = \frac{12}{m_y \times 88}$. $m_y \approx 3A$.
