JEE PYQ: Solutions And Colligative Properties Question 6

Question 6 - 2021 (18 Mar Shift 2)

A solute A dimerizes in water. The boiling point of a 2 molar solution of A is $100.52°C$. The percentage association of A is ____.

[Use: $K_b = 0.52$ K kg mol$^{-1}$, Boiling point of water $= 100°C$]

Show Answer

Answer: 100

Solution

$\Delta T_b = 0.52°C$. $i = (1 - \alpha/2)$. $0.52 = (1 - \alpha/2) \times 0.52 \times 2$. $\alpha = 1$. Percentage association $= 100%$.
