JEE PYQ: Solutions And Colligative Properties Question 8

Question 8 - 2021 (24 Feb Shift 2)

$\text{C}_6\text{H}_6$ freezes at $5.5°C$. The temperature at which a solution of 10 g of $\text{C}4\text{H}{10}$ in 200 g of $\text{C}_6\text{H}_6$ freezes is ____ °C. (The molal freezing point depression constant of $\text{C}_6\text{H}_6$ is $5.12°C/m$)

Show Answer

Answer: 1

Solution

$\Delta T_f = 5.12 \times \frac{10/58}{200/1000} = 4.414$. $T_f = 5.5 - 4.414 = 1.086 \approx 1°C$.
