JEE PYQ: States Of Matter Question 14
Question 14 - 2020 (08 Jan Shift 2)
$\text{NaClO}_3$ is used, even in spacecrafts, to produce $\text{O}_2$. The daily consumption of pure $\text{O}_2$ by a person is 492 L at 1 atm, 300 K. How much amount of $\text{NaClO}_3$, in grams, is required?
$\text{NaClO}_3(s) + \text{Fe}(s) \to \text{O}_2(g) + \text{NaCl}(s) + \text{FeO}(s)$; $R = 0.082$ L atm $\text{mol}^{-1} \text{K}^{-1}$
Show Answer
Answer: 2130
Solution
Moles of $\text{O}_2 = \frac{PV}{RT} = \frac{492}{0.082 \times 300} = 20$ mol. Mass of $\text{NaClO}_3 = 20 \times 106.5 = 2130$ g.
