JEE PYQ: States Of Matter Question 21

Question 21 - 2019 (11 Jan Shift 1)

A 10 mg effervescent tablet containing sodium bicarbonate and oxalic acid releases 0.25 mL of $\text{CO}_2$ at T = 298.15 K and P = 1 bar. If molar volume of $\text{CO}_2$ is 25.0 L, what is the percentage of sodium bicarbonate in each tablet? [Molar mass of $\text{NaHCO}_3 = 84$ g/mol]

(1) 0.84 (2) 33.6 (3) 16.8 (4) 8.4

Show Answer

Answer: (4) 8.4

Solution

Moles of $\text{CO}_2 = \frac{0.25}{25000} = 10^{-5}$. Mass of $\text{NaHCO}_3 = 84 \times 10^{-5}$ g = 0.84 mg. % = $\frac{0.84}{10} \times 100 = 8.4%$.
