JEE PYQ: States Of Matter Question 9

Question 9 - 2020 (02 Sep Shift 1)

Which one of the following graphs is not correct for ideal gas? ($d$ = Density, $P$ = Pressure, $T$ = Temperature)

(I) $d$ vs $T$ – decreasing curve (II) $d$ vs $T$ – increasing curve (III) $d$ vs $1/T$ – straight line through origin (IV) $d$ vs $P$ – straight line through origin

(1) I (2) II (3) IV (4) III

Show Answer

Answer: (2) II

Solution

For ideal gas $d = \frac{PM}{RT}$, so $d \propto \frac{1}{T}$. Graph II showing $d$ increasing with $T$ is incorrect.
