JEE PYQ: Surface Chemistry Question 18

Question 18 - 2020 (05 Sep Shift 2)

Type: MCQ

Adsorption of a gas follows Freundlich adsorption isotherm. If $x$ is the mass of the gas adsorbed on mass m of the adsorbent, the correct plot of $\frac{x}{m}$ versus $p$ is:

(a) Graph with 200 K highest, then 250 K, then 270 K
(b) Graph with 270 K highest, then 250 K, then 200 K
(c) Graph with 270 K highest, then 250 K, then 200 K (different curve shape)
(d) Graph with 200 K highest initially then crossing

Show Answer

Answer: 0

Solution

As adsorption is exothermic process, hence $\frac{x}{m}$ decreases with increase of temperature. So at lower temperature (200 K), adsorption is highest.
