JEE PYQ: Thermodynamics Question 10
Question 10 - 2020 (05 Sep Shift 2)
For a dimerization reaction, $2\text{A}(g) \to \text{A}_2(g)$, at 298 K, $\Delta U^\Theta = -20$ kJ mol$^{-1}$, $\Delta S^\Theta = -30$ J K$^{-1}$ mol$^{-1}$, then the $\Delta G^\Theta$ will be ___ J.
Show Answer
Answer: $-13538$
Solution
From $\Delta H^\circ = \Delta U^\circ + \Delta n_g RT$. $\Delta H^\circ = -20 \times 1000 - 1 \times 8.314 \times 298 = -22477.57$ J. $\Delta G^\circ = \Delta H^\circ - T\Delta S^\circ = -22477.57 - (298 \times -30) = -13538$ J.
